We’re huge Linux desktopn fans, but among the desktop operating systems available (Windows, macOS, and Linux), Linux usually tends to occupy the third position overall.
Some of the latest stats include:
- Statcounter: Linux occupies 2.88% of the market share, compared to 7.3% for macOS (OS X), 4.92% for macOS, and 66.83% for Windows.
- Steam Survey: In terms of desktop gaming, Linux has a market share of 2.23% (Arch Linux, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu as the top three) when compared to 1.16% for macOS (OS X) and 96.61% for Windows.
- Statista (last updated on Jan. 2023): The Linux desktop market share was 2.76% compared to 14.55% for macOS, and 70.39% for Windows.
